Poster for 20+ sauces for fish

Sure, fish is great. But fish with a great sauce? That's the pro move.

When you have a handful of solid sauce recipes in your back pocket, a simple piece of salmon or white fish suddenly becomes five or six completely different dinners.

    My Favorite Sauces for Fish

These are the sauces I come back to over and over, whether it's for a weeknight fish fillet or something a little more ambitious. Some are rich and buttery, some are bright and herby, and a few are both. Each one links to the full recipe, so click through to whatever catches your eye.

    Creamy Lemon Butter Sauce

This creamy lemon butter sauce is flawless over salmon, grouper or even tilapia.

    Italian Salsa Verde

Bright, herbacious, a little spicy - everything we love about Meditteranean flavors in a gorgeous sauce. Serve it over broiled cod, scallops or slow roasted salmon.

    Creamy Salmon Patty Sauce

Whether you're serving up salmon patties, fish cakes or cod fritters, this creamy lemon dill sauce brings the perfect flavor.

    Creamy Cajun Shrimp Sauce

Rich, creamy, loaded with garlic, citrus and shrimp flavor, this sauce is perfect over blackened or grilled fish. Add creamy grits and you'll have the best dinner of your life.

    Pistachio Gremolata

This nutty, herby, citrusy table sauce is delicious over simple baked fish, crispy potatoes, or steamed veggies.

    Piccata Sauce

This creamy lemon caper sauce is the one you can always count on. It's simple, spectacular and easy to double for company. Make it for crispy fish piccata, shrimp or halibut cheeks.

    Fresh Ginger Scallion Sauce

Bright ginger and savory scallions are the star of the show here and you can't believe the flavor this one adds to seafood. My favorite flavor from my travels in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia. Serve it over steamed fish and rice, shrimp or even calamari.

    Creamy Garlic Mustard Sauce

Mustard sauce with big garlic flavor is a classic pairing for crab claws - but equally delicious with shrimp!

    Romesco Sauce

Smoky Spanish Romesco Sauce is a simple, dump-it-all-in-the-food-processor-and-go kind of recipe. But the flavors are spectacular. I love it with these shrimp stuffed peppers, but serve it just as often with a simple seared cod or air fried salmon.

    Tzatziki Sauce

This is the yogurt-dill sauce for your Greek-style fish cakes and EBBS Salmon. But it's also perfect on every seafood-topped grain bowl I've ever made.

Olive Herb Sauce (with Whole Grilled Fish)

Chunky olive herb salsa is ideal over a simple grilled fish with charred lemons. I've also served it with grilled shrimp skewers to a standing ovation.

    Lemon Dill Sour Cream Sauce

A sophisticated, creamy lemon dill sauce that's perfect over your weeknight salmon.

Olive Oil, Garlic and Parsley Sauce (BBQ Calamari)

This is the sauce you'll find at almost any table in Portugal. Served over grilled calamari, whole grilled sea bass, or the catch of the day.

Shrimp Louie Salad Dressing (5 Ingredients)

While technically a salad dressing, Shrimp Louie Sauce is basically a creamy cocktail sauce with a kick. It's fantastic with any shellfish or crispy fish your making tonight.

Honey Lemon Butter Sauce (over Salmon)

This honey lemon butter sauce with sliced almonds is the kind of sauce that makes people sit up and ask questions. Where did you find this? How did you make it? Can I get seconds?

    Fish Taco Sauce

Creamy Chipotle Sauce is the answer to all your fish taco needs. It's customizeable to your preferred level of spice and flavor!

    Homemade Tartar Sauce

We can't talk about the best sauces for fish without talking about tartar sauce. My version is lemony, dilly, pickly (sub capers if that's what you have) and it always wins the night.

    Vietnamese Cajun Crawfish Boil Sauce

If you love a good cajun butter dipping sauce, you're going to get obsessed with this Vietnamese version, straight from our friends in Houston. Ginger, lime, cilantro, fish sauce...you won't believe the flavors. Serve with crawfish, shrimp, grilled fish or lobster.

    Garlic Mascarpone Sauce (Pan-seared fish)

I used mahi mahi here, but use your favorite white fish. Sear it, then build this creamy, herby sauce right in the pan.

    Caesar Salad Dressing

Make this one with or without anchovies, then serve it over blackened shrimp salads, salmon salad, or brush it over salmon fillets for Caesar Style Salmon.

Creamy White Wine Dill Sauce (Seared Rockfish)

Creamy white wine sauce studded with fresh dill is exactly how I want to smother my pan-seared fish. You will, too!

    Homemade Shawarma Sauce

I serve this one with Shawarma Salmon, Salmon Wraps and Falafel Pitas. It's always a hit.
