The best thing about this sauce is how easy it is to make. And you can modify the ingredients to fit your taste and your pantry!

    Ingredients for perfect dipping sauce:

Before we get into the step by step instructions, a few notes about the ingredients:

    • Soy sauce: I prefer low sodium soy sauce in this recipe. For a gluten free option, choose tamari.
    • Chili crisp: Lao Gan Ma is my preferred brand, but use what you have and taste to adjust flavor.
    • Sugar: substitute brown sugar, maple syrup, honey or your favorite sugar substitute.

Full ingredient list and measurements for making your own dipping sauce included in the printable recipe card below.

How to make sauce for potstickers

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl. Whisk or stir until sugar is dissolved. Alternately, you could add all ingredients to a mason jar, cover and shake until combined.

Serve your perfect potsticker sauce with store-bought or homemade potstickers, dumplings, shrimp wontons, Japanese gyoza or your favorite dim sum.

    Substitutions and Optional Ingredients:

    • Garnish: sesame seeds or diced green onions can be used to garnish your spicy dipping sauce.
    • Aromatics: my favorite brand of chili crisp includes garlic and onions and chilis, so it adds all the savory punch you need in this flavorful dipping sauce. If you're using chili oil instead of chili crisp, consider adding a bit of grated fresh garlic and / or garlic to the sauce.
    • Tamari: grab gluten free soy sauce for your dipping sauce recipe if you prefer!

How to store leftover dumpling sauce recipe:

This Dumpling Dipping Sauce can be made ahead and kept in a jar or airtight container in the refrigerator. Store leftover sauce in the fridge for up to 7 days.
