Ingredients for Air Fryer Salmon Recipe

Before we get to the easy step-by-step instructions, a few notes about the ingredients.

    • Salmon Fillets: Use fresh or frozen salmon fillets (thawed if frozen). Skin-on fillets work well in the air fryer, but skinless works great, too.
    • Raw Sugar: Adds a subtle sweetness to balance the savory spices. Substitute brown sugar if that’s what you have on hand.
    • Paprika: Use smoked paprika for a deeper, smoky flavor or stick with regular paprika for a milder taste.
    • Celery Salt: Adds a unique depth of flavor. If you're out of it, use regular salt and a pinch of celery seed.
    • Olive Oil: Helps create a crispy, golden finish. Avocado oil is a great alternative for high-heat cooking.

How to Make Salmon in the Air Fryer

    Step 1: Prep Fish

Preheat air fryer. Combine spices and sprinkle over salmon fillets.

Salmon seasoned and placed on parchment paper next to olive oil

Brush fish with olive oil, covering the spices.

Seasoned salmons pieces brushed with olive oil.

    Step 2: Air Fry Salmon

Place salmon in air fryer basket, skin side up. (If you intend to remove the skin, or you’re cooking with skinless salmon, leave skin side down.) Cook at 400 for 6 minutes. Open air fryer and test for doneness. If needed, cook additional 1-3 minutes.

2 salmon fillets in air fryer, skin side up.

Garnish with lemon wedges diced chives. Serve with homemade tartar sauce or spicy aioli.

Can I use frozen salmon fillets?

Yes, but for this recipe, thaw the fillets first for even spice distribution and cooking. Pat them dry thoroughly before seasoning to ensure the spice mix adheres.

How do I know when the salmon is done?

I prefer to remove my salmon from the air fryer around 135 degrees. If you're looking for well done fish, that's when the salmon reaches an internal temperature of 145 degrees. If you don’t have a thermometer, look for an even, opaque color.

    Can I adjust the seasoning?

Absolutely! Add cayenne pepper for a spicy kick, swap in lemon pepper for a citrusy twist, or use blackening seasoning for a cajun blast.

How do I prevent salmon from sticking to the air fryer basket?

Brushing our salmon with olive oil over the spice mix does the trick! This helps prevent sticking and ensures easy removal.

    Description

This air fryer salmon recipe is a deliciously simple way to enjoy a protein-packed, flavorful meal with minimal effort. Perfect for any occasion, it’s a must-try for seafood lovers and air fryer enthusiasts!

    Ingredients

    Units Scale
    • 2 6-ounce salmon fillets, thawed
    • 1 teaspoon raw sugar (sub brown sugar)
    • ½ teaspoon paprika
    • ½ teaspoon celery salt
    • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
    • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
    • 2 teaspoons olive oil

    Instructions

      1. Preheat Air Fryer: Set the air fryer to 400 degrees and let it preheat for recommended time.
      2. Prepare Salmon: Dry salmon fillets with paper towels. Combine the raw sugar, paprika, celery salt, garlic powder, and black pepper in a small bowl. Sprinkle the spice mixture evenly over the salmon. Brush seasoned fillets lightly with olive oil, ensuring the spice mix stays in place.
      3. Air Fry Salmon: Place the salmon in the air fryer basket, skin side up (or down if using skinless fillets). Cook at 400 degrees for 6 minutes.
      4. Check for Doneness: Open the air fryer and check the salmon with a fork or thermometer (I aim for an internal temperature of 135 degrees to allow for carry-over cooking without drying my salmon). If needed, cook for an additional 1-3 minutes.
      5. Serve and Enjoy: Garnish with lemon wedges, chives and your favorite sauce, such as homemade tartar sauce or spicy aioli.

    Notes

    Reheating

    • Air Fryer: Reheat at 350 degrees for 3-4 minutes for a crisp texture without overcooking.
    • Oven: Preheat the oven to 300 degrees and reheat the salmon on a baking sheet for 10 minutes.
    • Serve: Use leftover salmon on salad, in tacos, or flake and make Salmon Patties.
