Creamy Cajun Shrimp Sauce

This creamy cajun sauce is buttery and a little spicy and the perfect topping for blackened fish, your favorite cheesy grits, or buttermilk biscuits.

Ingredients:

– Butter – Onion & garlic – Tomato paste – All purpose flour – Cajun seasoning – Smoked paprika – Salt and pepper – Seafood stock – Whole milk – Orange zest – Chives – Shrimp – Lemon

Let's Get Cooking

1. Build Sauce

Saute diced onion and minced garlic in butter over medium heat until fragrant and tender.

Add tomato paste and continue to cook for another 2 minutes.

2. Season

Add flour. Stir and cook the roux for 2-3 minutes, then add cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, salt and pepper.

Slowly add in the cup of stock, stirring to incorporate the roux.

3. Cook Shrimp

When the mixture comes up to a simmer, add shrimp and cook for 2-3 mins.

Add orange zest and milk, stirring to incorporate and heat through.

Remove from heat. Squeeze fresh lemon juice and add chives.

Serve creamy cajun shrimp sauce over grits, blackened fish, grit cakes, veggies, or a big pot of pasta.
